Understanding Spanish Tenses

Presente (Present)

Used for current actions, habitual actions, and general truths. "I speak" / "I am speaking"

Preterito (Preterite)

Used for completed actions in the past with a definite beginning and end. "I spoke" / "I did speak"

Imperfecto (Imperfect)

Used for ongoing or habitual past actions without a definite endpoint. "I used to speak" / "I was speaking"

Futuro (Future)

Condicional (Conditional)
